Accelerated Reader (AR) is a researched based and highly effective reading enhancement program.  Fiction books in Dona’s library are arranged according to AR reading level, aiding students in selecting books that will target their individual needs.  After a student reads a book he/she may use a school computer to take a comprehension quiz, assessing how well the student understood the book.  These quizzes may be accessed only from school.  Every morning before school, the school’s computer lab is open from 8:00 – 8:30 for students wishing to take quizzes. Students accumulate points based on quiz scores and are then awarded prizes when they reach various point levels.  Teachers are able to use assessment information to monitor students’ progress, guide and differentiate instruction for their students, as well as provide students and parents individual reading reports that will assist in determining they kind of help and practice each on needs.
